Last year they placed 2nd in NL West to the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 37 – 23 record for 60-game 2021
The had a .617 record which exceeded all other National League records except The Dodgers
The Dodgers had a 43 – 17 record
In the post-season The Padres beat the Brewers only to be eliminated by the Dodgers
The Padres have been 4th in annual contract spend in MLB

Pitching rotation: Lamet, Paddack, Richards, Blake Snell and Yu Darvish
A.J. Preller, San Diego Padres GM
AJ Preller, General Manager for the Padres since 2014, Former Asst GM and Scout for Texas Rangers.
Early in his career he worked with MLB, Phillies Intern, and Front Office of Dodgers.
Preller had to compete with 8 other candidates for the San Diego GM job. His competition included Kim Ng prior to her role as GM for the Miami Marlins.
San Diego Padres finances per Forbes report
Ron Fowler and Pete Seidler bought the San Diego Padres in 2012 for $600 million dollar that investment is now valued at $1.45 Billion dollars
Important Notes:
A.J. Preller was instrumental in bringing Darvish from Japan to the Texas Rangers in 2012.
Considering Preller’s broad international look to baseball it is not surprising to see that he would pick internationally from KBO with SS Ha-Seong Kim with a deal of $28 million dollars that could reach $32 million with incentives.
It is possible that future Padres trades could include more Korean baseball players as they have a full-time scout in Korea.
Cubs & Rays – Salary Dump
MLB potentially set floor salary spend
Changing Face of MLB
The face of baseball is changing with the recent move to bring Kim Ng in as General Manager to the Marlins.
Ng’s appointment brought a small crack into the white male dominated management of the game.
Boston Red Sox – First MLB Black Woman Coach – Congratulations to Bianca Smith, 29 year old
Minor League Coach in Fort Myers Player Development facility working with position players.
Recently she served as Carrol Univ in Wisconsin as Asst Coach and Hitting Coordinator
Let’s hope the Sox are equally as progressive with their front office and major league roster.
